About PetsKeeps, and who writes it

Free calculators for dog and cat owners, built on published veterinary formulas — with the sources shown.

Who I am

My name is Eunrae Cho. I am not a veterinarian, and this site does not pretend otherwise. What I am is someone who got tired of feeding by the scoop.

I run a learning centre for refugee children in Malaysia, where I teach computing. Building small web tools is how I learned to teach it. PetsKeeps started because I wanted an honest answer to a question the back of a food bag would not give me: how much should this specific animal eat today?

Why the calculators exist

Feeding guidance printed on packaging is written for an average animal that does not exist — a middle weight, middle activity, un-neutered adult. The real calculation vets use is not complicated, it is just not printed anywhere an owner will find it.

So each tool here does one thing: takes the actual numbers for your animal and applies the published formula. No account, no email, no paywall.

Where the numbers come from

Every calculator is built on guidance published by veterinary bodies, and every page links to the source documents so you can check them yourself:

What this site will not do

It will not diagnose. It will not tell you whether a symptom is serious. It will not recommend a prescription diet, and it will not suggest you delay seeing a vet because a calculator produced a reassuring number.

Calculators give you a starting point and a question to bring to an appointment. That is the whole intent.

How this is paid for

Some links on this site are affiliate links, marked AD · PARTNER. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is what keeps the tools free and account-free.

Partner links never change what a calculator outputs. The formulas are fixed and published, and no advertiser has any input into them.

Corrections

If you find an error — a formula, a date, a broken link — I would rather hear it than not. Write to hello@petskeeps.com and I will fix it and note the change on the page.
